CANAAN- Aarne Michael Cummings, 77, died on January 20, 2023, at his home in Canaan.
Mike was born on November 29, 1945, the son of the late Aarne and Bertha (Olson) Cummings. He graduated from Hartland Academy with the class of 1963 and received his degree from Maine Maritime in 1968. He was a merchant marine for 21 years.
Mike was a brilliant engineer and could fix anything. He enjoyed restoring older automobiles and attending car shows. He liked hunting, fishing and boating. He could tell tall tales and sell snow to an Eskimo. He was a wonderful husband, terrific dad, and an awesome Bampa.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sonja Cummings of Canaan; children: Bonnie Melanson and husband Peter of Hartland, Mark Cummings and wife Stacy of St. Albans, Christina Trask of Palmyra, and Katherine Tolman and husband Darrell of Palmyra; grandchildren: Tiffany and husband Ed, Shawna, Katelyn, Jared and wife Emily, Elijah and wife Sierra, and Hannah; great-grandchildren: Noah, Ella, Brynne, Luke, and Anna Rose; siblings: Karla Ricker and husband Fred, Karen McGibney, and Mark Cummings and wife Melanie; several nieces and nephews.
