Larry C. Wonson ’74
Larry C. Wonson, 71, passed away on May 4, 2023, at the Kaplan House in Danvers after a lengthy illness. He grew up in Rockport, graduating from Maine Maritime Academy with a BS degree and a Third Mates License. He worked for Exxon Shipping Company for 16 years and obtained a Master’s License of Unlimited Tonnage, serving as the Captain on the Exxon Wilmington. He was also licensed as a First-Class Pilot for the Port of New York. In 1990 he came ashore, switching careers, and obtaining a Massachusetts Wastewater Operator License. He then went to work for the Town of Rockport, retiring after 26 years in 2017.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne and their daughter Amy Longo and her husband Michael, their daughter Emma of Rockport, his son Michael of Dorchester, his sister Arlene Conlon and her husband, Philip, niece Kerianne of Exeter, NH, his sister-in-law, Renee Treacy and her husband, Bill of Austin, Texas.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Priscilla, and Harry “Bo” Wonson of Rockport.
Larry loved the town of Rockport and spent many happy years on the water.
At his request, services will be private, and his ashes will be spread in Sandy Bay by his family.
