Thomas J. Frederick, 78, passed away February 26, 2023, at Northern Light Mayo Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born August 22, 1944, in Waterville, the son of Anthony J. and Evelyn (Gamble) Frederick.

Tom (“Tommy”) grew up in Pittsfield, Maine and attended Maine Central Institute where he graduated in 1962. During his time at MCI he participated in football, skiing, and baseball. He was the class president his sophomore year and was a member of the Key Club.

After high school, he continued on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering at Maine Maritime Academy in 1966. He spent his career working around the world as a Merchant Marine. He served in the Naval Reserve for many years and in an active duty capacity during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, retiring with the rank of Commander.

When Tom was not at sea, he was usually working on projects around home and spending time with his family at camp. He enjoyed going out on the boat, having cookouts, tinkering in his barn in the summer, and skiing in the winter. Tom had a welcoming demeanor and greeted people with a comforting smile. He was patient and always took the time to show his kids how to fix or build the project of the day (even if it didn’t need to be fixed).

Tom is survived by his wife, Mary (Webber) Frederick of Dover-Foxcroft; children, Jason W. Frederick and his significant other, Linda Cianchette, of Brewer, Tamlyn M. Frederick and her significant other, Matt Bradeen, of Yarmouth, and Scott Frederick; brother, Anthony Frederick and his wife, Marilyn, of Bedford, NH; and sister, Judith Hanson and her husband, Gary, of Rowley, MA. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Terry Frederick, and parents-in-law W. Ward and Margaret S. Webber.

Family and friends who would like to attend are invited to a graveside memorial to be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the family lot in the Dover Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. A cookout and celebration of Tom’s life will follow the same afternoon at the family camp on Sebec Lake.  Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
