John W. Adam ’54
John (Jack) William Adam III passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital after a short illness surrounded by the love of his family on April 24, 2024.
Jack was born on February 22, 1932 to John W. Adam II and Miriam Adam (nee Dean) in Tuxedo, NY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles Adam and Charles’ wife, Donna. Jack’s legacy lives on through his siblings, Dean Adam (widower of Elizabeth), Judy Greenwood (widow of Thomas), and Marcia Allessie (married to Vincent).
As a young boy, Jack and his family moved to Natick, MA where he graduated from Natick High School.
After high school, he graduated from Maine Maritime Academy with a Degree of Marine Science. He served as a lieutenant (LT, O3) in the US Navy. His naval service laid the groundwork for a successful career at General Electric in Schenectady, NY with the Gas Turbine Sales Division.
Jack’s marriage to Joan Adam blended two families, creating a large network that includes Joan’s children, Susan (married to Jack) Reilly, Wendy (married to Bob) Senecal, Lennard (married to Janet) Anderson, and Brenda (married to Greg) Blick, and his own children, John W. Adam IV (married to Cathy), Ruth (married to Frank) Francisco, Elizabeth (married to Leonard) Burke, and Jamie (married to Shaun) VanCampen. The union celebrated the joy of numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In retirement, Jack discovered a second calling as a general carpenter, using his skills in a more hands-on manner. He was a Jack of all trades, quite literally! Jack was there whenever you needed him. Beyond his professional life, Jack’s love for his family, the Yankees Baseball team, and his enjoyment of square dancing highlighted his passions in life.
