William T. Orr ’74
William T. Orr (aka “Captain Bill”) of Lake Hopatcong, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. Clare’s Hospital Dover Campus surrounded by his loving family. He was 71 years old. Bill was born on September 24, 1952 in Denville, NJ to the late Wayne and the late Agnes (Connor) Orr.
Bill was a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy and long-time resident of Lake Hopatcong. He was a retired Merchant Marine and a retired Tug Boat Captain with Amboy Aggregates.
Presently, Bill was a Captain on the Miss Lotta on Lake Hopatcong. He was a was a parishioner of St. Jude RC Church in Hopatcong, a member of the Lake Hopatcong Elks Lodge, the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, Rory O’More Pipes & Drums and the American Legion. Bill enjoyed golfing, model building and playing the bagpipes but most importantly, he loved spending quality time with his loving family.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Joann Leahy Orr, his children, Connor Orr, Christopher Skinner and Amanda Skinner and his cherished grandchildren, Khloe Skinner and Keaton Skinner. Additional survivors include his sisters, Valerie Orr and Alicia Aikens and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Bill’s Life Celebration Services will include a Visitation on Wednesday, April 10th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850. There will be a Funeral Mass offered on Thursday, April 11th at 10:00 am at St. Jude RC Church, 40 Maxim Drive in Hopatcong, NJ. Interment will follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Twp., NJ.
