Jeremiah J. McCarthy ’47
Jeremiah “Jerry” J. McCarthy, 95, of Manchester, NH, died April 13, 2022, after a period of declining health. Born in Portland, ME, on January 24, 1927, he was the son of Jeremiah and Mary (Nalback) McCarthy. He resided in the Queen City for many years. He graduated from Cheverus High School, Portland, ME and Maine Maritime Academy.
Jerry served with the United States Merchant Marines. Until his retirement, he was employed in the engineering department with Commercial Union Insurance Company for thirty years.
He was longtime communicant of Saint Pius X Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and altar server. Deeply devoted to his faith, he held membership in the Legion of One Thousand Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood as well as the Knights of Columbus.
Jerry was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his kind, gentleman like ways. He will be deeply missed and his memory held dear.
He was married to his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Barbara J. (Lingley) McCarthy. She died May 31, 2015. He was also predeceased by two infant sons, Thomas and James; a grandson, Michael McCarthy; a brother, Joseph; and two sisters, Constance and Eleanor.
Family members include three sons, Timothy J. McCarthy and his wife, Chris, of Gilford, NH, Kevin C. McCarthy and his wife, Rose, of Yakima, WA, and Joseph T. McCarthy and his wife, Lisa, of Manchester; a daughter, Barbara Davis and her husband, Ken, of Hooksett; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, John McCarthy and his wife, Dorothy, of Manchester; a sister, Mary Murray of MA; and several nieces, and nephews.
Services: Calling hours are Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 9 to 10 AM at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022, with a mass Christian burial to be celebrated at 11 AM in Saint Pius X Church, Candia Road, Manchester, NH.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
