It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert J. “Swede” Lindvall, who left us Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at the age of 80.
Born in Waterville, Maine Sept. 20, 1944, Robert lived a life full of adventure, laughter and a genuine connection with all those he met.
A proud graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, Swede was captain of both the football and rowing teams. After graduation, he served aboard merchant ships, transporting war supplies to Vietnam and commercial goods across the globe.
His years at sea were followed by a fulfilling career as a builder and contractor on Nantucket Island.
Known for his sharp wit and biting sense of humor, Swede had a rare gift for connecting with the people around him and making them laugh.
He was a talented poet, filling binders with an abundance of sonnets, haikus and wordplay. His larger-than-life personality will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Carl Lindvall (Sarah), along with his adored grandchildren, Virginia, Lilly and Hutton. He also leaves behind his brother, Larry Lindvall; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever carry his memory.
Swede’s legacy of kindness, humor and love will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
