Kenneth W. Barstow ’57

“Ken” Barstow, 86, passed away peacefully on May 5th, 2022 in Clinton, Connecticut, where he had lived for 50 years. Born on October 8th, 1935 in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was the second child to Paul Dixon and Gladys Hillier Barstow, who raised their family in Dexter, Maine. Upon graduation from Maine Maritime Academy in 1957, Ken entered the United States Navy, where he served as a Surface Warfare Officer for over 22 years to include diplomatic and staff assignments in Quito, Ecuador and Yokosuka, Japan.
A burgeoning artist, expert cook and shameless punster, Ken was above all a consummate family man with a list of friends that both filled Clinton and circled the globe. Dedicated to his adored wife, Marcy, for 63 years, he leaves behind an enormous following of those that loved him and who will forever miss his endless humor, creative energy and welcoming presence that never failed to put one immediately at ease.
Ken is survived by his wife, Marcy, his brother, Richard, his sister Kathleen McLauren, his three daughters, Julia Deptula, Wendy Lewis and Ann Head as well as seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Fair winds and following seas, Ken.
