What are Career Fairs?

Maine Maritime Academy’s Career Fairs are one of the most important events of the year, attracting companies and alumni from across the country eager to meet our students and discuss employment and cooperative educational opportunities.

When are the career fairs?

This year's fall career fair will be held on October 17th, 2024.

The spring career fair will be held on March 27th.

Where is the career fair held?

Career fairs are on the MMA campus and held in the Alexander Field House.

What time is the career fair?

The career fair doors will be open to the students from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm with the first half hour reserved for seniors only.

Who comes to the career fair?

We are expecting a wide variety of companies, local and nation-wide, searching for students to fill co-ops, internships, and jobs. You can search the company bios on the registration site and see the bios on some of the campus TV monitors..

Who can attend the career fair?

All students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend. This is a great opportunity to practice your “meet & greet” skills and form networking relationships as you begin to prepare for your career.

Is the career fair just for job seekers (seniors)?

No, this is a resource for all who are interested in learning more about companies in the industry. Field Experiences and employment opportunities are a very big part of the fair, but networking and information gathering is important for all students. Often company recruiters will meet an underclassman and follow them over the years eventually offering them a job when they graduate.

What about interviews?

Some companies will interview immediately following the spring career fair, 3:30PM-5:00PM, and some will choose to interview the following day. Companies may have you sign up for an interview while you are at their table.

Where is lunch on Thursday?

Lunch is available in the dining hall in Alfond Student Center.

Why should I attend the career fair?

Career Fair is organized for you to research and connect with companies in the industry that might interest you. You should take advantage of these representatives to ask questions and network with them.

What should I bring to the career fair?

Bring your ID card to scan in to the event. Bring a number of resumes to hand outif you are looking for a field experience or job opportunity. Career Services will be hosting resume review sessions prior to the fair. Stop by for a look and make sure your resume stands out.

What should I wear at the career fair?

This is a first impression for the company representatives that you meet. First impressions are lasting impressions that you can’t undo. Business casual is expected at a minimum, business professional is most appropriate in this setting Recruiters have mentioned that they like the professional atmosphere on campus and the way MMA students present themselves.

How can I prepare for the career fair?

The first step is to get your resume in order (...attend Career Services Resume Review Sessions). Look up your targeted companies online and do some research. Companies today expect you to know something about them.

How do I find my company when I get there?

When you enter the Field House each row of companies is labeled with a letter. The company is then numbered as you go down the row, so a company in A-3 will be the third company table of the first row, etc. Booth/Table numbers will be assigned just prior to the fair and can be found on the app the day of the event.
