Day 7: Mother’s Day at Anchor

Happy Mother’s Day!  Our day began with muster at 0710, as always. Captain Mac announced the source of the malfunction with lifeboat number four: a sheared shaft that had formerly been one piece was now two.  Unfortunately, this means we will stay anchored outside Searsport for a little longer.  A possible stop back in Castine or Searsport may occur, as we need to get stores and offload trash but we will wait and see tomorrow.

Bravo company is on utility, which means a significant amount of cleaning and then some downtime. This is perfect because it is a beautiful day at anchorage. Although there are whitecaps on the bay, the sun is shining. Alpha is on training today, they have their first quiz and then a day of learning.  Charlie is on watch, keeping the ship safe, sleeping, or hanging out on the 04 deck until it is time to report to their watch location. Delta has maintenance, keeping the ship in good shape.  The 2nd Class are all over the TSSOM working with the 4th Class showing them how to conduct maintenance and “fix” things on the ship.

Morale is still high, even with the uncertainty of how the lifeboat incident will affect future port calls. CWO5 Kowalski has introduced ducks hidden at cleaning stations, which if found glean prizes. LCDR Gualtieri set out to take everyone’s picture with the Mother’s Day sign made by 4/C Bethany Ives.  Bravo yeoman posted a ping pong tournament signup sheet and is working on a cornhole tournament signup sheet which will be posted outside the ship’s office. There was a large turnout on the 04 deck last night and the night before to see the northern lights, which showed up in almost every color over the ship. Hoping for more good weather and calm seas while in Penobscot bay.
