Mathiasen’s Tanker Industry, merged with Trinidad Corporation and Apex Oil & Gas. 1964 to 1995. Ship Captain, 1st Class Pilot. Retired

Ship Captain and Professor at MMA. 1996 to 2011

Retired and studied for my Masters Degree after 50 years going to Sea

What is your current title and what are your responsibilities?

Then: Commodore USMS

Now: RETIRED

What piece of advice would you give to a student going into your field?

Build a work ethic reputation with your employer. Raise licenses and certifications as soon as possible. Stay connected with further education by taking Distance Ed Classes online.

How did the MMA experience prepare you for both your prior positions and your current career focus?

I’m not afraid to tackle any problems, or to work hard for my employer. We were taught that to be a leader you had to experience what you were expecting your employees to do.

What are your goals for the future?

Stay healthy and keep active in my elder years. Enjoy my children, grand-children and great grand-children.
